Local 2228’s first electronic vote a success
Government members recently participated in the Local’s first electronic vote to select the default dispute process for their upcoming negotiations. By electronic vote, the members voted in favour of binding arbitration as their preferred option.
Feedback from the members confirmed the voting process was simple and quick. Feedback from the Election Judge confirms the vote was easy to test and the result easy to verify. By all accounts, it was a success.
Members can expect greater use of electronic voting in the future. Electronic voting will greatly simplify contract ratification and elections of officers and delegates. The system can also be used to conduct general membership surveys.
The easier it becomes for members to participate in the decision making process, the more those decision reflect the views of the members. It is a goal we all share.
