Federal Government and IBEW Exchange Proposals

Oct 19, 2010

The IBEW and the Federal Government each tabled their proposals for collective bargaining on October 15.  Both are available for download here:

The members will note that the union is seeking to make gains in the usual areas: improved vacation leave entitlements, overtime and travel benefits.

For their part the employer is also seeking a number of changes to the collective agreement.  Although many of them are editorial in nature and do not pose a threat to your terms and conditions of work, it’s also clear the employer is seeking rollbacks in a number of areas including call-back and accumulation of vacation leave.  Members will also notice that the employer is reserving the right to make proposals in relation to severance pay on retirement and resignation.  Clearly the employer is seeking an arrangement similar to the one tentatively agreed to by certain groups within the Public Service Alliance of Canada.

The union will study the employer’s proposals carefully in preparation for our first bargaining session scheduled for December 6 to 10, 2010.  More news will be made available as the discussions progress.
