Nav Canada Negotiations Update #6

Jan 4, 2010

December 16, 2009

Your bargaining team recently completed another face-to-face session with NAV CANADA on the subject classification and associated wages. Although there is no agreement we are making progress.  NAV CANADA has a much better understanding of our salary needs and we have a better understanding of the challenges facing the company.  Furthermore we have agreed to meet with the company as soon as possible in the new year.

All the team members and I greatly appreciate your continued patience as we inch our way closer to an agreement.  I know many of you find these delays frustrating and some may even find them unacceptable.  I share your concerns as do the other members of the team.  But we also know it is in your interest to give NAV CANADA the time it needs to review our proposal in detail.  We can force their hand but the response would not be acceptable to you.

Implementing a new classification plan involves long-term decisions affecting hundreds of members over many years. It may very well be the most important negotiations we will have with NAV CANADA for many years to come.
