Union and DFO reach informal agreement on job description review

Jan 14, 2010

Members in the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (Integrated Technical Services Directorate) may now sign their new work description without consequence.

The Local and the department reached an informal agreement which will ensure that members have an opportunity to comment on their work descriptions.  The agreement allows the union to act as a clearing-house for comments and concerns.  It also ensures that any employee that has signed his or her work description is not barred from filing a grievance with respect to its content.  This process will greatly simplify and speed the review process.  It will also ensure that the union is aware of all the members concerns.

Employees with comments or concerns about the content of their new work description must forward these to the Business Office to the attention of Ed Fletcher (ed@ibew2228.ca) no later than January 29th, 2010.  Be sure to specify your job title and level in your submission. The union will bring these concerns to the Department once we’ve had the opportunity to collect and review the input.

In solidarity,

Daniel J Boulet
Business Manager / Financial Secretary
