Intelivote Selected to Conduct a Membership Vote

Feb 9, 2010

Your Local Union Officers have chosen Intelivote to conduct our first nationwide electronic membership vote.  For this vote, members in the federal government bargaining unit will be asked to choose a dispute resolution process for all future rounds of federal government collective bargaining.

Electronic voting offers significant benefits to you and the union as a whole.  Members will not be required to attend a meeting in order to cast their ballot.  Although we strongly encourage members to attend the meeting and hear the discussion about the resolution, it's not always possible to do so.  For the union, electronic voting is a far more convenient way to run an election.  The need for tellers is eliminated and all that is required is an election judge appointed by the President to certify the results.  Results are available almost immediately following the close of the polls.

Electronic voting is a significant departure from our current practice.  We know that the security and privacy of your vote as well as your personal information is important to you.  Intelivote was chosen because they are a Canadian company based in Halifax with significant experience in “eDemocracy”.  They have a wide client base including various municipalities and the Canadian Industrial relations Board.

Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. The world is changing – and so are we.
