NextGen Committee: June Meeting, July Social, and the IBEW Walk Across Canada

Local 2228’s NextGen Committee is back with two virtual gatherings this summer and an invitation to join IBEW Canada’s national mental health initiative.

Whether you’re newer to the local, newer to the labour movement, or just looking to build skills you can carry into any meeting room, the NextGen Committee is where members come together to learn how our union works and to shape where it goes next.

June Meeting Motions and Robert’s Rules of Order

Ever sat in a meeting and wondered how someone gets an idea from “we should do something about this” to an actual decision the local acts on? That’s what we’ll cover.

This meeting walks through:

  • How to draft and submit a motion
  • The basics of Robert’s Rules of Order  the procedural framework followed at every IBEW meeting
  • How to participate effectively when motions are on the floor

These are foundational skills for any member who wants their voice to carry weight in committee work, membership meetings, or up the chain to District and International conventions.

A chance to connect with NextGen brothers and sisters across the local in a more relaxed setting. Bring yourself, bring questions, bring whatever you’re working on  solidarity travels well over Teams.

IBEW Walk Across Canada  June 13 & 14, 2026

Between the June meeting and the July social, IBEW Canada is hosting the Walk Across Canada, a nation-wide initiative to fundraise and raise awareness for Canadian mental health. Proceeds go to the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA).

You can participate virtually from wherever you are, or join a local meetup. Meet new people, get some fresh air, and find solidarity in your local all in support of a cause that matters to every workplace.
