Nominations and Elections for Officers of Local Union 2228
OFFICIAL NOTICE
Upon conclusion of the recent election of officers, International -Vice President Shewchuk has determined that the process followed was not consistent with the currently approved bylaws. It was ruled that the entirety of the election was done outside of the IBEW Constitution, Local 2228’s Bylaws, and the Canadian Local Union Election Guide. As such the results of that election have been deemed invalid and we must re-run the election of the Local Union Officers.
Further to the statement above, please take note that nominations are now open for the following positions:

No member may be a candidate for more than one office. Anyone nominated for more than one office must advise the Recording Secretary as to which office they will be accepting candidacy by August 8, 2025.
The nominee’s proof of willingness to stand for election must also be sent to the Recording Secretary and be received by August 8, 2025. It is the responsibility of the nominee (if they so desire) to provide the Recording Secretary with a resume of his or her (union only) activities by August 8, 2025. If received by this date, it will be posted on the Local’s web site for the information of the voting membership.
The election will be conducted by mail ballot and ballots shall be counted beginning on September 29, 2025. All members in good standing shall be mailed a ballot not less than 15 days prior to the above-specified date. Ballots received after the close of business on September 28, 2025, will not be counted. Members will receive voting instructions by mail at their last known address. The votes will then be certified by the Election Judge who is appointed by the President.
Each candidate shall be entitled to an observer at the polling place and during the counting of the ballots. Observers may not interfere with the orderly procedure of the election.
In the event a runoff election is required, the same shall be held with the vote count to take place on October 20, 2025. The same rules shall apply to the runoff election as were applicable to the regular election.
All officers shall be installed and begin their four-year terms at the first Executive Board meeting following the conclusion of the election.
Any member who believes a protest of the election is warranted is urged to contact the election judge within a few days after the ballots are counted. Further protests of the election may be filed in writing with International Vice President Russ Shewchuk within 30 days following the election. The decision of the International Vice President shall conclude the processing of a protest within the IBEW.
