President’s Message to All IBEW Local 2228 Members Across Canada

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

As members of IBEW Local 2228, we’ve faced some significant challenges recently. But together, we have the strength and determination to move forward and rebuild. Your Executive Board is committed to making our Local stronger, more resilient, and better prepared for the future. We ask for your patience and support as we work through these changes.

Unit Elections

For all active units that have not yet held elections, it’s time to begin the process. Please organize nominations for Unit Chair, Co-Chair, and Unit Recorder at your next meeting, followed by an election meeting. If you have any questions or need guidance, reach out to me or your Regional Executive Representative.

Budget Planning

The Executive Board is preparing budgets that will be voted on by all active units nationwide. The deadline for completing this process is December 9, 2025. After this date, budgets will be sent to Unit Chairs to facilitate member voting.

Building Corporation Update

As many of you know, Canada is experiencing a housing crunch, and municipalities are taking action. In Ottawa, where our property is located, new legislation has increased vacant property taxes. In addition to this, our current real estate holdings do not necessarily align with the needs of our Business. We will be looking at options to optimize our real estate over the coming months and we will communicate any options and/ or plans as they develop.

Your involvement and voice are critical as we navigate these changes. Let’s work together to strengthen our Local and ensure a bright future for all members.
