Check your Membership Status

Greeting’s members of Local 2228.

It has come to the attention of the Local that several members have yet to fill out an application form to become an active member or a member in good standing.

Even though a member is paying union dues and will be represented by the Local should an issue arise, unless a member has filled out the application form and received their union card they are considered a non-active member or a member not in good standing in the eyes of the international Office.

Why should you join?   As a member in good standing, you have the right to:

–   Vote in Local Union elections;

–   Submit proposals for collective bargaining;

–   Attend and participate in regular Local Union meetings and special meetings such as contract ratification meetings;

–   Participate on Local Union committees

–   Apply for and obtain optional life insurance at reduced rates through Local 2228; and finally,

–   Let your voice be heard to set the direction of the union.

Once you have been a member in good standing for two years, you may also run for office or seek to be a delegate to International Conventions.

Joining also allows us to contact you with news and important updates and information.

I encourage everyone to fill out an application form and help shape your terms and conditions of work today and tomorrow.

The application form can be found here.

In Solidarity
