Nasittuq Bargaining Update
On April 8th, the Local and the Nasittuq Corp. exchanged proposals to formally begin the negotiating process on the wage reopener article.
The week of bargaining consisted of discovery and clarification discussions with respect to a few non-monetary articles of the collective agreement. One article of clarification regarding Vacation accrual was accepted and signed off.
The Local’s bargaining team presented a fare and healthy wage package to the employer for consideration. IBEW 2228 members working for Nasittuq have seen their base wages stagnate over the past several years and in some cases fall behind comparators that do similar work with other employers and the bargaining team feels the time is right to have that corrected.
Despite efforts to reach a mutual agreement on wages, the Local and Nasittuq were unable to bridge the significant gap between the Local’s wage proposal and the employers wage offer. As a result, the matter is being referred to arbitration for resolution by an independent third party.
